I have been without internet since last Thursday.
I have not been neglecting this blog..... The Powers That Be have been neglecting me.
Now we are off on a wee vacation to meet family in Paris.
We'll only be gone for 3 days but this will be our first foray out into the real world since V's diagnosis.
We will be braving the hazards of train travel and restaurant dining.
For non-diabetics this doesn't even merit thought.
For diabetics it requires planning.
First, there's all the stuff: insulin, blood testing equipment and strips, snacks for lows, GlucoKit for emergencies....
For this, V is now the proud owner of a Man Bag. Naturally, I had to buy it for him as he wasn't accustomed to shopping for, um, bags.
I think it's gorgeous....
And, actually, he was quite pleased with it.
He has now joined the ranks of well-dressed European men.... Yes, they carry bags.... Probably about 30% of the men one sees have a bag.
The French are ever practical....
Second, there are the worries: will there be too much exercise, will the food be too high or too low in carbs, will we be able to judge and inject appropriately.....
I have no doubt that we will mange it all just fine, and have a wonderful time as well.
It's not as easy or as carefree as it once was.
We'll just have to learn to appreciate it all the more.
I'll be back next week.
